Working with Men:

Therapy for Male Issues

Supporting Men to Navigate Life’s Challenges with Strength and Clarity

Many men grow up with the message that they should “tough it out,” stay silent about their struggles, or figure everything out on their own. But the truth is, being a man in today’s world often comes with unique pressures—balancing work, relationships, family expectations, and identity, all while keeping up a strong exterior.

I specialize in working with men who are ready to look beneath the surface and address what’s really going on. Whether you’re struggling with stress, anger, relationships, loneliness, or questions of purpose and identity, therapy offers a safe and non-judgmental space to explore your experience.

What is counselling for?

Counselling is for sorting through the challenges of life. It’s a series of conversations where a professional is there to support you. Unlike when you might open up to a friend, I’m not there to give you my opinions, my solutions or my judgement.

I’m there to share the benefit of my experience of being in the counselling room for over a decade, supporting men with anxiety, depression, relationship problems, and grief.

I combine evidence-based strategies with a down-to-earth, practical style. I understand that many men want therapy to feel useful, direct, and not overly abstract. We’ll work together to:

  • Identify the patterns holding you back.

  • Build tools to manage stress and emotions effectively.

  • Improve communication and relationships.

  • Develop a stronger sense of confidence and direction.

Why Work with a Therapist Who Specialises in Men?

Men often face silent battles. Therapy designed for men acknowledges the cultural, social, and personal expectations that can make opening up difficult. Working with me, you’ll find someone who gets those pressures and helps you navigate them without judgment.

Research shows that men face particular challenges when it comes to seeking therapy. These include masculine socialisation and ideas around how men are supposed to be dominant in society.

what have i worked on with men as a counsellor?

The list of things that I’ve talked to men about in counselling is very long, but here are a few things that have come up over the years:

  • Anxiety

  • Depression

  • Developing emotional literacy - anger, shame, sadness

  • Work - stress and burnout

  • Relationships - communication difficulties, intimacy concerns, breakups

  • Being a father

  • Bereavement

  • Serious illness

  • Finding direction in life

  • Sexuality, sexual identity

  • Erectile dysfunction

  • Suicidal thoughts

  • Being neurodivergent

  • Life Transitions – career changes, midlife challenges, or finding meaning and direction.

If you want to talk about something that’s not up there, don’t worry, with my experience and ability to listen without judgement, I can be there for you while we explore it together.

how much do sessions cost?

A 50-minute counselling session costs £70.

If you have cover through Bupa, AXA, Aviva or WPA, you may find that they will cover most, if not all, of the cost.

Taking the first step can feel daunting—but reaching out is a sign of strength, not weakness. If you’re ready to explore how therapy can help you handle life’s challenges with greater resilience, clarity, and confidence, I invite you to get in touch.

I can be there to support you with whatever you bring to the therapy room. By creating a warm, empathic counselling relationship, we’ll look to find answers to the questions you’ve been asking.

We’ll start with an intro call, when I’ll explain who I am and how I work, and you’ll ask any questions that you might have.

First time in therapy? No problem, I’ve been there myself, and I’ve supported many men with their first steps on their therapeutic journeys.

Get in touch and we’ll get the ball rolling ASAP.
